with eight worlds, sonic colors is the more story-driven of the sonic generations games, but it still has a few fun things for die-hard sonic fans as well as casual players. the biggest letdown is how much of a letdown it all is. sonic generations was a revelation in so many ways, and the return of classic levels and bosses was great in and of itself. sonic colors only really returns to that, and the rest of it just feels like some childrens adventures thrown in for a few cameos. the new galaxy game mode is interesting and fun if you love the idea of trying to collect all the stars, but the gameplay itself just feels cheap and low-res. the ability to use the spin dash on walls is a nice touch, but it kinda just forces you to not use the spin dash too much, and lets you become a lazy wall spinner.
of course, the big story is sonic. its like the canon sonic that everyone knows and loves. its where he was introduced to the world. its where he lost the default “speed” gameplay and gained “sonic speed”. its like they think he needs a sequel to make that happen, but its still fine.
now, i dont play sonic colors much, but i do think its more or less good, and is sonic colors really necessary? i mean, it would be cool if it had sonic 2/3 and sonic: lost world levels, but thats probably asking too much. why does this need to be at the same time as sonic generations? its not even really sonic colors. if anything, its sonic generations 2. sonic colors was supposed to fill the gap between sonic & sega.
why is this only called sonic colors? sonic generations is a great name, a fitting name. what i mean by that is, sonic generations, since it was a prequel to sonic 3, is a fitting name for what the game is.
