My Grandparents bought a house in Benavides (San Luis Potosi), south of Mexico City. They were settled, felt safe. However, one night, my grandmother dreamed a beautiful dream. She dreamed that the devil had come to her, a very ugly, old and angry devil, and he had asked her to give her soul to him. She was afraid because she knew the devil had a needle, and the devil knew that she loved her son- in-law. She also knew that since they were in the south of Mexico and everyone was Catholic, the devil could not kill her. She thought about this for two hours, and she was frightened, but she also could not bear to be the kind of person who does not fight back to save her own soul. So she said ‘yes’ to the devil, and gave him her soul. But my grandmother saw herself standing in a beautiful place, where the sun was shining, and she saw my Grandfather. She knew he would be glad. She also knew that she did not want to go back into the devil’s house, even if she had to suffer for a few years. So she went back to the house, and she asked the devil why he had lied to her. The devil laughed at her and said: ‘Do you really think that I’m lying? Who do you think I am? Do you really believe that I am a good person? Did you think that I was a good person when I took your soul? No, of course not. I took your soul because I had no need of you, and I wanted to be rid of you. You did me no good, so I took your soul. What’s the good of you? ‘ she said.

She woke up in a panic because she knew that the devil had taken her soul, and she did not know how to go back. She took me in her arms and called God to come, but God did not come to her. She was very sad, very lonely./*
