# Creating Layers
Each Photoshop layer is like a piece of paper. In some ways, it’s similar to placing a piece of paper on top of another piece of paper. Each layer that you create sits on top of a different layer or canvas.
Each Photoshop layer has its own adjustment settings. These settings include _levels_ (the brightness, contrast, and shadows of the photo), curves, and colors. You can drag and drop these adjustment settings on layers and then apply them to the layers.
By default, each layer in a photo is _visible_ — when a particular layer is selected, the other layers become invisible. However, you can make a layer completely invisible by clicking the eye icon at the upper left of each layer and then adjusting the Visibility property. This setting, which is the default, allows you to show and hide layers and adjust the opacity (transparency) of each layer.
If you press the Option (Mac) or the Alt (PC) key, you see the Layer options box, as shown in Figure 2-6, with its list of different layers. With each layer highlighted, you can click the little eye icon at the upper left to make a layer invisible, or to make a layer active. You can also click the layer thumbnail to make it active.

Does the character of 〜もんがあればなりませんか have any influence on the way the sentence is interpreted?
In my native language there is a sentence that goes something like this:
「[決して] 決して[絶対] ならないどころか なりません」。
My interpretation of it would be something like “However, it is not necessarily true that”. But I’m curious if there’s any influence on the way the sentence is interpreted if I replace the part after the 「もんがあれば」 with 「決して」 to make the sentence “It is not necessarily true that (the character) never happens, rather it is not necessarily true that”.
Like for example:
「決して[絶対] ならないどころか なりません」
「決して[絶対] ならないどころか なりません」
I am not an expert in Japanese, so I’d appreciate if someone could help me understand if there is any influence on the way the sentence is interpreted in this case, if the character of 「もんがあれば」 makes any difference to how it’s interpreted.

Both are true statements, meaning that 絶対{ぜったい} never happens and 絶対{ぜったい} never happens.
もんがあればならない is understandable but not understandable in only one way. You can interpret it in several ways as you wanted to. But you can not turn the 「もんがあれば」 to 「決して」

Starting with a foundation

Here, you’ll see three panes of which the top is the canvas and the bottom two are the tool palette. At the bottom of the tool palette is the layer thumbnails; each thumbnail represents a visible layer. For instance, Figure 1, bottom, shows a simplified version of a mosaic that has seven layers, five of which are visible. The layer that is the bottom layer (the one with the blue checkmark) is obscured by the other layers. If you want to make the mosaic visible, you must activate the layer on the bottom layer. To do this, click on the layer thumbnail. The blue checkmark changes to a red checkmark, and a yellow outline around the thumbnail indicates that the layer is active.
